Public Safety Reform
"If we are a society committed to the concept of equal justice under the law for every individual, then it must apply for every citizen." - John Lewis
The time for change is now. Barbara’s life-long pursuit for equality and justice has positioned her to drive the public safety reforms needed to eradicate systemic racism and its deadly consequences.
Transformational change can only be achieved through thoughtful community dialogue that engages both residents and police.
Barbara recognizes that successful police reform and transformation requires that we as a community demand comprehensive approaches to public safety which include retraining police, prohibiting use of deadly restraint techniques, and supplementing law enforcement responses with appropriate crisis intervention and behavioral health services.
Barbara will work tirelessly to ensure that these approaches are enshrined and funded in federal public safety reform efforts.
